Hmm. How about this: alt.religion.kibology.suburban could be like alt.humor.best-of-usenet in that people aren't allowed to post directly to it, but instead the moderator simply reposts the few articles from a.r.k that are deemed, in the moderator's opinion, to be A Cut Above. (I know that a.h.best-of-usenet has random people scanning for good articles, not the moderator, but you get the idea.) I like this because that way the moderator wouldn't have to worry about people attempting to "post" to a.r.k.suburban (given that a.r.k gets 100-200 articles a day, and the number is likely to only rise) and that people who are posting will have exactly one group to post to. They won't have to decide where to put the article, and you won't see people cross-posting to a.r.k and a.r.k.suburban. Basically, a.r.k.suburban would be "Moderator's choice of just the very best stuff from a.r.k", with the address for submissions being /dev/null. People who want all the stuff could read a.r.k, people who want just the good stuff could read a.r.k.suburban, and the moderator wouldn't have to deal with a ton of mail, just read a.r.k like normal people and then repost. Am I making this too clear? I'd better throw in a non-sequitur here or people will think I've lost my mind. SALTINE CRACKERS WHEN RUBBED ON SKIN PRODUCE EROTIC SENSATIONS IN LABORATORY RATS!!! I volunteer to *archive* the new group, as I'm archiving everything on a.r.k already, archiving a sister group would be no problem. I did not volunteer to moderate the group as (a) I have no time and (b) I'd make a rather biased judge. Then again, the group is named after me, so maybe the moderator *should* be predisposed to like all my articles. I support Lewis McCarthy for a.r.k.suburban moderator, and I support the creation of a.r.k.suburban, as a.r.k is carrying so much traffic now that it's getting to be like alt.sex--threads go on and on, and it's very hard to tell a.r.k from any other high-volume group. a.r.k looks like alt.sex, which looks like alt.folklore.urban, which looks like talk.bizarre, etc. Back when it started a.r.k was *completely* different from talk.bizarre, of course. -- K.
